Meet LaToya S.! She participated in The Beachbody Challengeand won the $500 Daily Prize for September 13!

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I have been described as cute, chunky, Ms. Piggy, round, fat, thick, big boned, and PHAT my whole life. The first food I learned to cook was a baked potato in the microwave. Growing up hearing, “You are cute for a big girl,” or, “You would be really cute if you just lost some weight,” helped me develop a thick skin quickly. In addition to that thick skin, I developed an overcompensating persona, who we fondly named Sassy Caramel. Sassy Caramel could get away with being big because she had the confidence to stomp out those types of comments and strut her stuff. She is also super flirty, so I always had fun in this persona. Although I had self-love, I knew I could do and be better.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I truly woke up one morning and felt it was time for a change although the mental work had been going on for years. I want to do my bucket list adventures of sky diving, parasailing, horse back riding, and zip lining.

What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
My greatest challenge was and still is my eating. The second, is remaining consistent with my exercise. Beachbody helped me focus on smaller steps for my larger goals especially in exercising. The low-impact fitness programs like Yoga Booty Ballet and Hip Hop Abs (love Shaun T.) truly helped me keep moving. When progress was noticed by others who didn’t know I was making changes, I knew I was finally on to something.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
At the beginning of the challenge, I was over 350 pounds, and I finally fell below 300. I have not seen these numbers since high school. I can do more push-ups, sit ups, crunches, and modified burpees before needing a break. I know proper format for squatting, dead lifts, and lunges. I have a medium-impact flow going on most of the exercises. I have trimmed nearly 40 inches off my body.

How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
Tennis, running, jumping, and breathing is easier. I no longer snore while sleeping allowing for better quality sleep. I am completing obstacles and circuits created by young adults or former military personnel. I am an inspiration to my family and friends. I continue to push myself to do just one more. Next up, completing both months of INSANITY.
