Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before I started on my journey, I was miserable. I was embarrassed to the point where I didn’t even want pictures of my wedding to be shared, because of how ashamed I was of how heavy I’d gotten. I also had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and absolutely no energy.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
It was two things. On the Fourth of July, when we got together for a cook out, a family member I hadn’t seen in a while asked me if I was having the baby or if my wife was. She was about six months pregnant at the time. Then we had our little girl a couple of months later, and I knew something had to change in order for me to be able to be there for my daughter long-term. Also, in the short-term, I wanted to be able to have the energy to keep up with her.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The hardest part was knowing what to do and how. I had tried before to lose weight, and it would last for a bit. I’d get a gym membership and go for a bit, then nothing. I woke up early for a little while, and went running in my office’s gym for a bit, but then again stopped when things came up. Plus, I wasn’t seeing much change, because my diet didn’t change. I didn’t get the concept that they needed to work together. So working out in the morning and then eating a bag of powdered donuts in one sitting was not going to do anything.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I loved that MAX:30 gave a way for me to compete with myself. It let me set the starting mark, then work to push myself past what I thought was possible! It ended up being much more than just the MAX OUT time. It was knowing that I was able to set it in my mind that I could do more than what I initially thought I was capable of.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I weigh less than I did in college and I’m in better physical shape. I actually have an outline of a six-pack, and know that achieving it is possible. And I maxed out the full 30 minutes of Cardio Challenge on the last day. I did not believe I could do that when I started the first day, and maxed out at six minutes and 42 seconds.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I’m a completely different person. I have more confidence, I’m happier, and I have more energy. My entire outlook on life has changed for the better, so that I can be a better father, a better husband, and just a better person all together.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
The Challenge Group helped to keep me engaged. It kept my focus on what I was trying to achieve in the forefront of my mind. It helped me to stay motivated and accountable, rather than letting life happen and sabotage my progress. It made me keep pushing instead of quitting if I didn’t see results fast enough, or was sore and didn’t feel like working out or eating right. It was inspiring.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
He was supportive, led by example, and checked in to see how I was doing. He just did what he could to keep everyone in the group on track and accountable to each other and themselves.
How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, or digestion/regularity?
I used Shakeology as my breakfast. It was delicious and helped, because it served as my “sweet” craving, so I didn’t need sweets like I would otherwise. I also used Energy & Endurance for a boost before the workouts. I did them in the morning, so it helped wake me up instead of coffee with creamer and sugar. I also use ActiVit, which I like as my multivitamin.2
